Following great success as Gluck’s Orphée with the company in 2015 tenor Samuel Boden returned to sing the title role of Monteverdi L’Orfeo with the Nederlandse Reisopera in January this year. The complete performance is available on Operavision until January 2021. With his flexible tenor and athletic posture, Samuel Boden proved a perfect fit for the role of Orfeo, offering unfailingly stylish singing in the midst of the demanding choreographed moves. His honeyed timbre and the way he audibly relished the text made the plaintive lyricism of the role most moving. Bachtrack. For those with less time on their hands here is Sam singing Rosa del Ciel.
Alongside those of Gluck and Charpentier tenor Samuel Boden adds Monteverdi’s Orfeo to his repertoire. He stars in the Nederlandse Reisopera production which opens in Enschede on January 25 and tours Holland until February 22. Monique Wagemaker’s staging is conducted by Hernán Schvartzman.
