Against all odds tenor Samuel Boden reached Barcelona for the long-awaited Spanish première of George Benjamin’s Lessons in Love and Violence. Reprising the roles of Boy and Young King he makes his début at the Gran Teatro Liceu with performances on Feb 26, Mar 1, 4, 7, 9 & 11. Tenor Samuel Boden features on the Grammy-nominated DVD recording of George Benjamin Lessons in Love and Violence. With the composer conducting the Orchestra of the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden Samuel sings the role of Boy / Young King. Meanwhile the CD recording of the work with the Netherlands Radio Philharmonic on Nimbus is one of the Notable Recordings of 2019 in The New Yorker.
Having created the roles at Covent Garden followed by performances in Amsterdam, Hamburg and Lyon Samuel remains part of Katie Mitchell’s production as it travels to Barcelona, Madrid and Paris in future seasons.

Later this season he reprises the roles of Boy and Young King in the work for the Staatsoper Hamburg and Opéra de Lyon.

Having sung the title role of L’Ormindo at the Sam Wanamaker Playhouse and Telemaco Il Ritorno d’Ulisse at The Roundhouse for the company tenor Samuel Boden will make his Royal Opera House main stage début on May 10 when he creates the roles of Boy and Young King in George Benjamin and Martin Crimp’s new opera Lessons in love and Violence. The production by Katie Mitchell will be conducted by the composer with further performances at Covent Garden on May 12, 15, 18, 24 & 26 before being staged as part of the Holland Festival on June 25, 27, 29, July 1, 3 & 5.
