Director Harry Fehr makes his Welsh National Opera début with Handel Orlando under the baton of Rinaldo Alessandrini. There are performances on September 27 (m), October 3 & 7 (Cardiff), October 14 (Southampton), 21 (Bristol), 28 (Llandudno), November 4 (Oxford), 18 (Birmingham). The cast includes Larry Zazzo, Rebecca Evans and Robin Blaze and the production is designed by Yannis Thavoris with lighting design by Anna Watson. Nicholas Kraemer conducts a production of Handel’s Belshazzar for Trinity Laban Conservatoire. Performances of the staging by Emma Rivlin are on July 2, 3, 4 & 5 at Blackheath Concert Halls. Later in the summer Kraemer travels to San Diego to conduct Opera Neo’s Agrippina on August 14 & 16 at Crill Concert Hall.
Winner of the 2013 Handel Singing Competition, tenor Rupert Charlesworth appears three times at the 2014 London Handel Festival. He gives a lunchtime recital with Ars Elequentiae on March 13 at St George’s, Hanover Square and joins Laurence Cummings, harpsichord, for a recital at the Foundling Museum on March 19 as well as singing Look down harmonious saint with the London Handel Orchestra on April 4 at St George’s.
Baritone Nicholas Merryweather sings Pallante in English Touring Opera’s new production of Handel’s Agrippina. Staged by James Conway, the performances are conducted by Jonathan Peter Kenny. Nick also appears as Liberto in The Coronation of Poppea with the company as well as featuring in the Music for Vespers concerts as part of the Baroque Opera from Venice season.
Tenor Rupert Charlesworth is through to the final of the Handel Singing Competition. Held in Handel’s church, St George’s Hanover Square, London on April 11, the competition is part of the London Handel Festival.
