Helen-Jane Howells ‘singing with purity and honesty’

” The instruction “strip to your undies” is nowhere mentioned in Virgil’s epic, but Helen-Jane Howells abandoned her tea dress and was fearless, even as temperatures and rain fell, singing with purity and honesty and no sign of shivering. Her “Remember me” in the famous Lament was heart-rending.” Guardian review of Dido & Aeneas at the Bath International Festival

Battle in the Baths

N Pocock Battle of Quiberon BayAs part of the Bath Festival’s Handel celebrations Robert Howarth directs a programme of Handel arias and orchestral pieces to accompany Richard Williams’ reconstruction of the Battle of Quiberon Bay of 1759 between France and Great Britain. Billed as ‘a witty new operatic and naval extravaganza’ the orchestra, chorus, singers and  actors will be joined by  Portsmouth Model Boat Display Team at the Roman Baths to re-enact the event. The performances on May 26 and 27 have proved very popular with tickets extremely hard to come by!
