Tenor Samuel Boden sings the haute-contre role of Idamante in Campra Idomenée with Le Concert d’Astrée and Emmanuelle Haïm. The reduced version of the work, entitled Le Retour d’Idoménée, is derived from the original production concept by Àlex Ollé and is part of the L’Inattendu Festival that opens the season at Opéra de Lille on October 3.
Following great success as Gluck’s Orphée with the company in 2015 tenor Samuel Boden returned to sing the title role of Monteverdi L’Orfeo with the Nederlandse Reisopera in January this year. The complete performance is available on Operavision until January 2021. With his flexible tenor and athletic posture, Samuel Boden proved a perfect fit for the role of Orfeo, offering unfailingly stylish singing in the midst of the demanding choreographed moves. Tenor Samuel Boden features on the Grammy-nominated DVD recording of George Benjamin Lessons in Love and Violence. With the composer conducting the Orchestra of the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden Samuel sings the role of Boy / Young King. Meanwhile the CD recording of the work with the Netherlands Radio Philharmonic on Nimbus is one of the Notable Recordings of 2019 in The New Yorker.
Having created the roles at Covent Garden followed by performances in Amsterdam, Hamburg and Lyon Samuel remains part of Katie Mitchell’s production as it travels to Barcelona, Madrid and Paris in future seasons.
Alongside those of Gluck and Charpentier tenor Samuel Boden adds Monteverdi’s Orfeo to his repertoire. He stars in the Nederlandse Reisopera production which opens in Enschede on January 25 and tours Holland until February 22. Monique Wagemaker’s staging is conducted by Hernán Schvartzman. Tenor Samuel Boden makes his début at the Staatsoper Hamburg singing Boy and Young King in Katie Mitchell’s production of George Benjamin Lessons in Love and Violence. Opening on April 7 with further performances on April 10, 13 and 18 conducted by Kent Nagano. Tenor Samuel Boden sings Oronte in James Darrah’s production of Alcina at the International Handel Festival, Karlsruhe from February 23 to March 1 with Andreas Spering conducting. Following which he will reprise the role of Orphée in Gluck Orphée et Euridice for a semi-staged performance in Moscow on March 5 with Musica Viva under the baton of Alexander Rudin.
Just announced is the Aldeburgh Festival programme for June 2019 which will feature tenor Samuel Boden and mezzo Kate Howden. Samuel sings the central role of the Narrator in Thomas Larcher The Hunting Gun as well as Britten Canticle III Still falls the rain. Kate joins The Ludwig Orchestra and Barbara Hannigan for Stravinsky Pulcinella .
