Conductor Robert Howarth makes his Broadway début as Musical Director of Farinelli and the King starring Mark Rylance and Iestyn Davies at the Belasco Theater, New York. The play by Claire van Kampen about King Philip V’s relationship with the celebrated castrato was critically acclaimed at the Sam Wanamaker Playhouse and Duke of York’s Theatre in London. The production opens on December 17 and there are performances until March 25, 2018.
Having previously directed Poppea with the group Conductor Robert Howarth leads performances of the Monteverdi Vespers 1610 with the Academy of Ancient Music on June 23 at The Barbican, London and July 14 in Gloucester Cathedral as part of The Cheltenham Festival. At the Dartington Summer School he directs a programme of Great Baroque Sonatas on August 5 and Purcell King Arthur on August 10.
Returning to the company after previous collaborations with The return of Ulysses and Il combattimento di Tancredi e Clorinda conductor Robert Howarth directs Dido & Aeneas with Graham’s Vick’s Birmingham Opera Company for performances on March 18, 19, 21, 22 & 23 in Birmingham. There are two performances per evening at a ‘secret venue’.
Conductor Robert Howarth will replace Richard Egarr for the Academy of Ancient Music’s production of L’incoronazione di Poppea at The Barbican, London on October 4. Conductor Robert Howarth will make his Opernhaus Zurich début conducting Monteverdi’s Il Ritorno d’Ulisse in Patria. He takes over at short notice for the production by Willy Decker with an all-star cast that includes Kurt Streit and Sara Mingardo. Performances on May 17, 21, 23, 28, 30, June 1, 5, 7, 11 & 14.
