The production by Barrie Kosky and Suzanne Andrade is conducted by Ivor Bolton. Joan will sing further performances on January 22, 24, 26, 28 and 30.
Tenor Samuel Boden will join the BBC Symphony Orchestra under Sir Andrew Davis on January 22 at The Barbican to sing Berlioz Romeo et Juliette. The performance will be followed by recording sessions for future release on the Chandos label and broadcast on BBC Radio 3 on January 26.
Director Harry Fehr’s production of Orlando for Welsh National Opera has been nominated for a Wales Theatre Award in the ‘Best Opera Production’ category. The winner will be announced on January 30. The production, which originated with Scottish Opera, has received much critical acclaim – “Harry Fehr’s recent Orlando for Welsh National Opera picks up where David Alden and David McVicar left off at ENO, recasting Handel’s sorcery story as one of psychological trauma and war. This is Handel with a modern audience in mind: emotional, direct, confronting.” The Spectator.
Opera director Harry Fehr has been nominated for a Manchester Theatre Award 2015 in the Best Opera category for his production of Cosi fan tutte for Clonter Opera in July 2015. All will be revealed at the awards ceremony on March 4.
