Scored for four string quartets and Large Tibetan Temple Bowl, the performance will involve The Medici Quartet plus three young American ensembles the Attacca, Corigliano and Jasper Quartets. The Medicis will be joined by the Court Lane, Finzi and Harpham Quartets for  the UK premiere on July 6 at Winchester Cathedral as part of the Winchester Festival of Art and Mind before a visit to the Petworth Festival on July 9.

The latest stage of Tavener’s musical and spiritual journey explored through his composition promises to provide a profound experience for performers and audience alike. Commissioned by the Music Mind Spirit Trust whose aim is ‘To release creative potential through the art and science of music’ each stage of the project involves the Medici Quartet acting as mentors to three up-and-coming quartets throughout the period of rehearsal. The process is the subject of a longitudinal study into collaborative creativity by Copenhagen Business School. Forthcoming outings of the project will involve cross-cultural collaboration amongst quartets drawn from diverse ethnic and faith backgrounds.
